Discovery Corner Academy Kindergarten Homeschool Co-op is a Christian-based homeschool cooperative that provides a distinctive, family-centered class exclusively for kindergarteners. It combines the optimal elements of traditional classroom education with active parental and family involvement, resulting in a blended learning environment. This includes teacher-led classes five days a week, supplemented by at-home parental support, organized group excursions, and social activities. Our mission is to collaborate with parents to offer support and motivation, as we strive together to foster a lifelong passion for learning, grounded in strong character and devotion to God.
Kids in this program must be 5 years old by September 1, 2025. We have a strong focus on the child’s social and emotional development and offer a variety of hands-on experiences such as music, library, as well as an outdoor classroom to keep our students moving and engaged! The kindergarten class will also be making trips to the Lancaster Library, Musser Park, and Central Market. We are also excited to welcome family members in as Mystery Readers to our classroom.
Our kindergarten Co-op runs M-F from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and starts in August through May completing the 180 days required by the state of Pennsylvania. Children will eat their packed lunch at school. The official school calendar will be published in July and can be emailed upon request. All registered families will receive a copy during our parent orientation night.
Our kindergarten co-op uses Tara West’s KinderCurriculum which meets all state standards and is based on the Science of Reading. This curriculum includes hands on learning in both small and large group settings. Included in the curriculum are Literacy, Math, Phonics, Grammar, Reading, Writing, Science, STEM, Social Studies, and Health. Our staff work together to create a blend of academic, social/emotional, and Christian Education. Our strong focus on child-led learning springs from our belief that learning through play is the best way.
